The kernel to shell ratio is a respectable 44%. It is 75% European and 25% American hazel. Its growth habit is vigorous and upright with a slightly spreading crown. It will grow up to 20' x 15' wide so plan accordingly. The tree is a prodigious producer with 17 lbs of nuts at year six in trials. Grows well in USDA zone 5 and is being tested for zone 4.

It has S-alleles 8 and 23 with S8 expressed in the pollen. Which makes it pollen compatible with Grand Traverse, Geneva and NITKA. We do not yet know compatibility for Truxton. In orchards please also grow seedlings every fifth row for pollination insurance. The Beast blooms in the early to mid-season in New Jersey. The nuts drop mid to late September.

As Raritan and The Beast are larger European genetics you will want them on a final spacing of 16ft. in row and 18 to 20ft between rows.

 For orchard design please see the latest version of the "The Hazelnut and Chestnut Handbook" by Jeff and Dawn Zarnowski. Please read our blog page to learn more about seedlings and our cultivars that we sell.

For tax exempt orders please email info@znutty.com with the desired quantity and your ship too address. We give quantity discounts on larger orders. Pricing already includes Royalty cost.

Trees are typically 6' to 8' tall. Please follow planting instructions.

Spring we typically ship late-April to late-May weather dependent, dormant and bare root. In the fall we ship mid-October to early November, dormant and bare root.

We cannot ship the Westcoast states. We will ship to Canada for large orders only!

Reminder a "cultivar" is a clone of the parent tree and performs just like the parent as it is the one and same genetics. Whereas, "seedlings" are just like children, it inherits traits from both parents and what traits are expressed we learn as it matures.

Plants with a patent or a PPAF (Plant Patent Applied For) asexual reproduction is prohibited.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1857/2633/files/Rutgers4468BeastHuskNut_fba7e24e-3e64-47b0-8fb0-19cfcc3a6547.jpg?v=1691263916
