Cortland Hazel Seedling 2 yr. old - 10 pack - Bare root- Spring ship
These seedlings are from one of our best tree selections. The nuts from the mother tree (shown below) are round, beautiful, tasty and very thin shell that you can crack by squeezing two in your hand. The nuts are well filled and a very short husk that allows the nuts to fall freely to enable harvesting.
Cortland grows upright with stiffer branches to 12+ feet tall at maturity and about 9 feet wide in bush form at 25 years of age. If grown as a single stem tree it will be 14 feet and similar width depending on pruning.
This tree is a very good producer in our field and very blight resistant (immune so far) after over 20 years. Also, a wind tolerant excellent pollen producer with a long pollen shed. Good for Zone 4b and warmer. Try in Zone 3!
Please read our blog page to learn more about seedlings and our cultivars that we sell.
These are started late winter in our greenhouse as tublings. We grow in small but tall pots to form a good root system. Then grown in the field for a second season.
We typically ship late-April to late-May weather dependent, dormant and bare root. Seedlings are typically 12" to 30" tall. We cannot ship to the west coast states or where quarantines exist.
We will be shipping to Canada this year.
Need a minimum of two trees for cross pollination.
